Aiman-Smith & Marcy, an Oakland class action law firm, has filed a class action lawsuit in Alameda County against UBER TECHONOLOGIES, INC. on behalf of taxi drivers in Oakland, Berkeley, and Emeryville. Aiman-Smith & Marcy, an Oakland class action law firm, has filed a class action lawsuit in Alameda County against UBER TECHONOLOGIES, INC. on behalf of taxi drivers in Oakland, Berkeley, and Emeryville. The lawsuit alleges that UBER has created an illegal transportation service that violates city ordinances and deceives consumers about the fares they must pay, the safety of the cars and drivers. The lawsuit further alleges that UBER’s business model cuts corners illegally and undermines critical safety provisions of the taxi laws in the cities and state of California. Its transportation system only succeeds because, unlike lawfully competing taxicabs, it prays parasitically on established taxi services without paying for permits and other required fees and without obeying the laws designed to protect taxi customers. As a result, UBER has systematically interfered with the business relations of taxi drivers throughout California, including in Oakland, Berkeley, and Emeryville. These taxi drivers are subjected to unfair and illegal competition from UBER, and have lost a significant portion of their fares – and their livelihoods – from a business which contends that it is above the law.
